The CarbonFlip Fund was made possible by a generous bequest from Jack Kugelmass
(1947-2020). After obtaining his master’s degree in environmental studies and
conducting doctoral research on climate change at the University of Montreal, Jack
founded several businesses that
put his environmental expertise into
practice. Whether it was
consulting, creating industrial
composting systems or
becoming the co-owner and manager
of an organic pig farm—notable
because he was vegetarian—Jack’s
primary goal was always to “get
the system right.” The CarbonFlip
Fund continues Jack’s
legacy by focusing on projects that
shift our energy,
transportation and food systems
to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions. With Jack’s help, we
are taking some of the urgent steps needed to create system change.
The Fund’s advisory group is composed primarily of Jack's friends and family: Alison Tett, Elliot
Selick, Mario De Luca, Max De Luca, Nicolas Tourangeau-Marceau, Elisabeth Tourangeau, Clara
Silcoff and Niamh Leonard.
